SOLAR ELECTRIC (PV)
We don’t install PV—but we’re happy to help you understand how it fits.
What Is Solar Electric (Photovoltaic)?
Solar electric systems—also known as photovoltaic (PV) systems—use solar panels to convert sunlight into electricity. That electricity powers your lights, appliances, electronics, and even some heating and cooling systems.
For many people, rooftop PV panels are the first thing that comes to mind when they think of “solar.” And for good reason: PV systems are a proven way to offset your home’s electrical energy use.
Our Focus Is Different
At Liquid Solar, our expertise lies in solar thermal systems and cold-climate air-to-water (A2W) heat pumps—technologies that directly heat your water and indoor spaces, not generate electricity.
We do not install solar electric systems. But we understand how PV fits into the bigger picture of energy use and can help guide you if you’re considering a full renewable setup.
When PV Makes Sense
Solar electric systems work well when:
You have high electricity usage (lighting, appliances, electronics)
You want to offset the electricity used by an A2W heat pump
You’re aiming for net-zero energy or planning a fully electric home
In these cases, a well-designed PV system can complement solar thermal and heat pump technologies.
When PV Might Not Be Necessary
If most of your energy use is for water or space heating, solar thermal may be the more efficient solution. Thermal systems convert 70–80% of the sun’s energy into heat, compared to 15–22% conversion efficiency in PV systems.
HOW WE CAN HELP
Though we don’t sell or install PV systems, we:
Provide energy planning support for homeowners and builders
Help design hybrid systems using solar thermal, heat pumps, and PV
Refer you to vetted, high-quality PV installers in Montana
Offer guidance on rebates, tax credits, and sizing questions
PV + Solar Thermal: A Smarter Combo
A solar electric system powers your lights. A solar thermal system heats your water and home. A heat pump bridges both worlds.
Together, these technologies can dramatically reduce your electricity, propane, and natural gas use—while increasing comfort and lowering emissions.
